Brian Adamson, B.A. Admin, M.B.A., FLMI (Chair, Building Committee):  Brian joined Seneca College in Toronto as a Business Faculty professor teaching Organizational Behaviour, Systems and Finance.  Over his 32 year career at Seneca, he held a number of Dean positions, Business Studies, Continuing Education, Administrative Systems and Business and Industrial Training before assuming the Vice President portfolio for Finance and Administration in 1992.

Brian retired in 1999.  He lives outside Meaford at Blantyre.  Since retiring, Brian has been active in the community, initially with Friends of the Meaford Library, the District Health Council, the South West Local Health Integration Network, our local Physician Recruitment Committee, and most recently, the NEGHC Board as Treasurer and Chair of the Building Committee.

 Elaine Burns

Elaine Burns moved to the area from the Milton/Oakville area in June of 2008 to become the Program Director of Meaford Hospital.  She has long been associated with the Thornbury/Clarksburg areas with family who have lived there for over 50 years.

Elaine has the greatest respect for the care provided in the Meaford Hospital and has come to think of the community as “home” and finds the people very friendly and welcoming.

Elaine truly believes that this is a great place for physicians to practice and looks forward to contributing the hospital perspective on the Board. 

 

Paul W. Derksen (Chairman, Finance):  Paul is the recently retired Executive Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer of Sun Life Financial Inc. He is currently involved in a number of businesses and serves on the Boards of CI Financial (Chair of the Audit Committee), the Canadian Liver Foundation (Chair of the Finance Committee) and other private enterprises.

In 2007, Paul and his wife Cheryl, retired to Clarksburg where they enjoy skiing, horseback riding and other activities.


 Robert (Bob) Holden (Treasurer): Bob and his wife Bonnie (Knott) were both born and raised in the Town of the Blue Mountains, and attended elementary and secondary school here. They have deep roots in the area as their ancestors settled here 150 years ago.  

Bob began his career with BDO Dunwoody Chartered Accountants in 1962 and was admitted to the membership of the Institute of Chartered Acountants of Ontario in 1968. They acquired an Orangeville accounting practice, so Bob and his family moved there in 1969 to manage the practice.

Bob has been active in many capacities in the community – past President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Director of the Orangeville Rotary Club; member of National Trust Company Orangeville Advisory Board; member and Volunteer fundraiser for Hospice Dufferin; member and Treasurer of the Orangeville Investment Club; Treasurer of the Dufferin Area Arts Council Art School; and member of the Shelburne Golf and Country Club.

He retired in 2002. Then Bob and his family became the first residents at Lora Bay in 2006.

Dr. Ian Irvine, (Honourary Board Chair):  Ian graduated M.B., Ch. B. Glasgow in 1961, elected FRCS (Glasgow) 1965. He emigrated from Scotland to Canada in 1966, where he joined the staff of Meaford General Hospital, and set up his General Practice in Clarksburg, practicing in the community until his retirement in the fall of 2007.

Ian and his wife Linda have 2 children in Canada and 3 children living in the UK. His interests include music, cooking, travelling and fishing in Northern Ontario and across Canada. He is active in Rotary International projects, and while he enjoys his retirement, he still actively supports Meaford Hospital in service.

Lynn Johnston

Lynn Johnston (Chair):  Lynn and her husband, Bill, maintained a weekend home outside Meaford at Christie Beach for several years and retired there in the late 90's.  More recently, they moved into Meaford.  Lynn has a nursing background and worked in hospital management for over 30 years. She was involved in planning, building and expansion of three hospitals during her career, the most recent being the new Headwaters Health Care Centre in Orangeville, Ontario.

Lynn worked on the original Physician Recruitment Committee as the Hospital Foundation Representative and was elected Chairman of the Board of North East Grey Health Clinics in May 2007.

Cynthia Lemon is a longtime resident of the Municipality of Meaford. Her family roots run deep in this area, and began on a beautiful farm on what is now the Land Force Central Area Training Centre.  She and her husband own and operate a small Hereford farm north of the Irish Block. Cynthia has spent over twenty-five years as an educator, and has worked as a teacher, a teacher union leader, and as an administrator. She holds a Masters in Educational Administration.
 
Cynthia is currently a councillor for the Municipality of Meaford.  With two grown up children in post secondary education (whom she would like some day to move back to the area), she understands the importance of having doctors to care for the citizens of our Municipality, whatever the age or stage of their life.

 
Bob Mackey Bob Mackey - Bob and his wife Janet were born and raised in Collingwood Township and went to public and high school in Thornbury.  Bob graduated as an Ontario Land Surveyor in Toronto and had a private practice in this area from 1964 to 1984.  From 1984 to the present, Bob has been a Real Estate Broker in this area.  From 1973 to 1981 he was elected to Council for the Township of St Vincent.  From 1983 to 1986 he was elected to the Grey County Board of Education.  Bob was appointed to the Grey Bruce Huron Perth District Health Council from 1998 to 2004 and was the Chairman from 2002 to 2004.  Presently, he is on the Board of Directors for the Grey Bruce Health Services and is the Founding Chair of the original Physician Recruitment Committee.

Michael Martin (Town of The Blue Mountains) and his wife Verla, have been residents of Thornbury/The Blue Mountains area since 1993, when he concluded a 20+ year career as an Executive of various Land Development Corporations and member of a Toronto Legal firm practicing principally municipal law.

As a member of the Community, Michael has held the following positions:

  • Past Chair of Thornbury Meaford Police Service
  • V.P. and past member of Beaver Valley Agricultural Society ("Fair Board")
  • Former Commodore of Thornbury Yacht Club
  • Past Member of Cragleith Ski Club
  • Member of Council of The Town of The Blue Mountains (2nd term)
Michael Martin

Wayne McFarlane

Wayne A. McFarlane, FCA, HRPA, (Fundraising Chair):  As a Chartered Accountant, Wayne practiced with Pricewaterhouse Coopers for 37 years, initially in the firm's Toronto audit practice before moving to Human Capital, where he was in charge of PwC's Human Resources, Learning and Education and Knowledge Management areas for Canada. In addition to his Canada roles, Wayne worked on several PwC Global committees and projects and was a member of the global firm's Human Capital Global Team.

Wayne has worked in several principal cities around the world and has extensive knowledge of global trends in people management.  Wayne retired to his home at Lora Bay in 2007 and continues to enjoy his rural property in The Municipality of Meaford which he has owned for over 30 years.  Since retiring, Wayne consults to Ryerson University as Executive coach to the MBA program, to PwC as a professional coach, and has become involved in leading a team to raise funds to build the two Community Family Health Centres.

Steven Schofield:  Steven, and his wonderful wife, Helene, have been married for 36 years.  They have three children and two grandchildren.

Steven spent much of his 30+ year career working in the financial service industry, primarily working with banks and financial institutions.  Steven held positions such as President of Newcourt Financials Vendor Finance Division, President & CEO of Dell Financial Services in Austin, Texas, and President & CEO of Microformm Inc., a publically traded company on the TSE.

Currently, Steven is the President of the Thornbury Clarksburg Rotary Club, a member of the Town of The Blue Mountains Affordable Housing Committee, a Director of North East Grey Health Clinics Inc., a representative of the Five Foundations on the Grey Bruce Health Services Board as well as being a member of the Meaford Hospital Foundation where he has held the positions of Director, President and Past President.

Des Von Teichman

Desmond (Des) Von Teichman: Des is originally from Toronto, but moved to the Thornbury/Meaford area full time in 1995 after a lifetime of weekend visits.  He is married with three young children and is particularly excited about the project to get doctors to the area to make sure his family is well served in the future.  

Des is a local Realtor and property developer.

Linda Wykes: Linda moved to this area as a young child. She attended schools locally. For the last decade, Linda and her husband Brian have owned and operated a small printing business in Clarksburg, which is the hub of many local initiatives. Linda has always been a pro-active member of the community, involving herself in the Chamber of Commerce, Thornbury-Clarksburg Rotary and numerous events such as the Marsh Street Centre, Jazz in the Park, Big Band Festival and Jazzmania, to name but a few.
