Practice in Our Community
Office Practice
We have opened our first community health centre in Thornbury and are currently planning the construction and opening of our second centre, to be located in Meaford.
There are currently four Family Physicians practicing in our Blue Mountains Community Health Centre in Thornbury.
Meaford has two GP Anesthetists, one board certified Geriatrician who also does Family Medicine and two additional GPs. After hours care is covered by a roster in the Meaford Hospital Emergency Department.
We are seeking an additional GP Anesthetist to locate in Meaford and assist at the Meaford Hospital.
Hospital Practice
The Meaford Hospital is a busy, well equipped hospital with 24 hour emergency care, an operating room and 20 inpatient beds. Our group staffs the Meaford Hospital Emergency Room 24/7, in 24 hour shifts. The Emergency Room has approximately 10,000 visits per year. You will have the opportunity to do emergency care, including trauma from the ski hills, assist at surgery and give anesthetics, if qualified.
We also run Outpatient Clinics at the hospital for a variety of procedures, such as lumps and bumps, liquid Nitrogen, etc.
Visiting Surgeons providing care in the Outpatient Clinics include two General Surgeons, from Owen Sound and Collingwood: two Orthopaedic Surgeons, from Collingwood and Owen Sound, and one Plastic Surgeon and one visiting Dermatologist from Toronto.
Community Practice
There are two large nursing homes in the area that are covered by local physicians
Professional Support
The local family physicians support one another through a Family Health Group. The secondary care hospital in Owen Sound, a distance of 20 miles from Meaford, administers the Meaford Hospital and specialist support is readily available 24/7.
The community is host to many services that augment the care given by Family Physicians. These include Physiotherapy, Social Services, Pharmacists, Chiropractic, Mental Health Services, Community Care Access Services and home nursing services such as VON.
Demographics
The population in our rural area is drawn from a mix of local business people, farmers, service and community workers, and retirees who have moved from the city to enjoy the four season lifestyle. We have a high percentage of seniors. The community is growing rapidly and now provides an opportunity for young families to stay and work here.
Life After Work
You are moving to a four season recreation area that offers almost anything you like to do to relax. Our ski hills, cross country and hiking trails, cycling routes, sailing and power boat harbours, golf courses and magnificent scenery of lakes and hills are second to none.
