Who Are We?
We are a nonprofit corporation with charitable status formed in 2007 by concerned community minded citizens to raise funds to build and operate two self sustaining community health centres.
Our community realizes that Meaford Hospital, a medical gem in our community, can only function with the support of sufficient numbers of Primary Care Family Physicians.
Formal fundraising started with our official kick-off event on July 19, 2008. Our target to fund both clinics was $4.2 million and, actively working with other community group representatives, we are well on our way to achieving this goal.
We have constructed and opened The Blue Mountains Community Health Centre in Thornbury as of September 2011. Two existing family physicians, Dr. Sauriol and Dr. Remillard, have moved in. Two new family physicians have been recruited: Dr. Yaghini opened his practice in September, 2011 and Dr. Klages will open her practice in November, 2011. In addition, the Thornbury Physiotherapy Clinic will relocate their offices to the centre in December, 2011.
Our Board is now reviewing the status of our planned Meaford area health centre and will be proceeding with construction in the next 12 to 24 months. That community health centre should be ready to attract new doctors just when retirement begins to reduce the number of Meaford based physicians.
With the addition of new family physicians, the future of Meaford Hospital has been greatly strengthened.
